You can protect yourself by making sure you shred any paperwork you throw away that contains social security numbers, account numbers, or any other personal information. If you don’t have a shedder, simple tear up documents into small pieces. Even better, only have paper copies of documents that you need to keep in your files and reduce what goes in your garbage.
